Many social networks such as Facebook and MySpace have no permission controls within their site. A lot of people never thought much about this until recently when the Attorney General had to get involved to have MySpace remove over 90,000 sexual predators from their site. Most social networks still, even after this issue has come up have not changed their policies. One site, Extension social network or EXT for short started their site with these controls already in place. Since the site allows their customers to set up multiple profiles to make a general public one that no one can see unless the customer chooses to. This keeps the customers safe and able to make a variety of profiles to hide their identity from predators. This makes it safer for customers to join a social network without a fear of the other people on the network.
Other sites make it so using the social networks can be dangerous to their customers. Allowing all of their information to be public making it easier for predators and stalkers to track customers without them even being aware of it. For a safer social networking, EXT has set up the network to protect their customers' information. EXT is set up that when someone joins their network they are able to create different profiles and the customer is able to choose which profile any other customer is able to see. This means they can set up a public profile that has no picture or even a picture from high school depending on what the customer chooses.
This protects the customers from others on the network. Since the customer is able to make a variety of profiles and the ability to chose whom is able to see each profile, personal information they wish to share are up to the customer alone, not the network.
These choices make EXT an advanced social network more concerned about their customers than just getting more numbers that other social networks are concerned about.
It does not always matter how many people are on the network if the customer is unable to find out if they not safe. A social network should be a safe place to find old friend, co-workers, family, and friends without a worry that a stalker is learning everything about the customer.
