Better Service Is Possible- Just Switch To Comcast

By Dawn Amerson

The only way to know that you are getting the level of quality of telecommunications services that you deserve is to switch to Comcast. While every other company offers a mixture of decent services and ones that are lacking, Comcast customers always know that they are getting the best. If you have gotten tired of service that leaves you flat and uninspired, switch today to make a big improvement in your life.

Comcast's service starts with plenty of choices. You are not the same as your neighbor and you shouldn't be expected to use the same types of services either. That is why you will always find tons of choices, whether you are looking for a cable television programming package or figuring out which speed broadband Internet service you need. You can get a feel for the level of choice that comes with every service by checking out the television programming packages. A package like Enhanced Cable With On Demand meets the needs of a family on a budget while still giving plenty of programming choices, while a package like On Demand Platinum Plus gives a television lover everything he or she wants. Of course, there are plenty of package choices in between these two extremes which offer hundreds of channels and a variety of premium channels.

Choices also extend to your television equipment. If you want just basic television equipment, you will be able to enjoy the free digital receiver that is included with every programming package. This will provide you with plenty of entertainment options including as many standard definition channels as come in your programming package and plenty of interactive features. A receiver with DVR is a step up and makes it possible for you to record any television show you want without having to obtain a degree in engineering. The DVR is actually so easy to use that most people start playing around with the scheduling of a large portion of what they watch. And, of course, Comcast offers HD receivers. If you really want to experience the best television, an HDTV receiver and programming is necessary. Better picture resolution, better sound, and a bigger screen are all part of the HDTV experience.

With Comcast's broadband cable Internet service, you also get plenty of choice. First of all, the fact that the service allows you speeds of up to 12 Mbps means you get plenty of choices as to what you want to do online. Whereas a dial up or DSL connection will limit your choices by making it impossible to get to certain sites, Comcast's high speed Internet is different. This service makes it easier to do everything and makes it possible to do so much more.

Along with the choices that come from such a fast Internet connection speed, Comcast's broadband cable Internet also comes with equipment and software that give you even more choices. For instance, the wireless router lets you choose where you want to use your computer without causing you to worry about moving wires. And the McAfee Security Suite that comes with your subscription gives you the chance to enjoy your Internet without having to worry about online threats.

Choices even extend to Comcast's Digital Voice telephone service. This service eliminates the need to worry about how much your monthly bill will come to, which gives you a lot more freedom in deciding who to talk to and for how long.

Comcast is the only company that offers such comprehensive and intelligent plans. Get more choice for your family by switching service providers to Comcast today.

Cable TV Companies Provide Great Value On Phone Services

By Rachel Smith

If you're looking for high quality home phone service that has plenty of features and is actually affordable, you probably don't want to look to the phone company. This may be surprising to some people- after all, traditionally if you want phone service you turn to the phone company- but conventional phone companies are now subject to some pretty impressive competition from cable TV companies. Comcast in particular provides home phone service that beats anything that the conventional phone companies have been able to come up with.

Cable TV companies like Comcast may seem like a surprising source for telephone service, but it actually makes a lot of sense to use cable technology to deliver phone services. For example, the fact that cable TV companies like Comcast use digital technology to transmit TV programming, also translates into higher quality phone communications. After all, phone service is a lot less bandwidth intensive than TV, so it's really not difficult to roll TV service in with phone service.

The real advantages to getting telephone service through a company like Comcast comes from value. Generally speaking, if you have a conventional land based phone line from a normal phone company, you probably either have a bare bones calling plan that doesn't include any of the popular extras like Caller ID, Call Waiting, and voice mail; or you have a calling plan that includes all of those features on a play that you pay significantly more for. Either way, you probably pay way too much for your phone service for what you get.

Companies like Comcast provide an alternative to this quagmire of inferior service, excessive cost, and all around poor value. That's because this type of calling plan includes those extras that can make using a phone more convenient, yet a plan from Comcast is a much better value because it costs about as much as the aforementioned bare bones alternative that a traditional phone company provides.

If you haven't tried the extra features like Caller ID and such that were mentioned earlier, they're definitely worth taking a good look at. That's because they can make such a big difference in how you use your phone. Caller ID would have to be the best example of this. After all, the ability that it gives you to see who is calling has immeasurable value because you don't always want to talk to any given person who is calling at any given time that they call. Caller ID is a great way to combat telemarketers and it allows you to talk to other people on your terms rather than theirs. Another advantage to Caller ID is that it provides you with a record of the calls that were made to your number- regardless of whether you pick up or not.

Voice mail is a good one to go with caller ID because it provides an additional way to filter your calls. For example, just because you look at your Caller ID screen when your phone rings and decide that you don't want to talk to somebody, that doesn't mean that you don't want to hear what they have to say. Voice mail takes care of that by providing the advantages of an answering machine without the upkeep.

These are just a few of the reasons why cable TV providers including Comcast are good alternatives to the phone company when it comes to land line phone services in your home.

Comcast Internet Special

By Rachel Smith

The decision to get a high speed Internet connection in your home can be an exciting step towards delivering the best possible access to information to your family! However, you might want to know that Comcast can provide you with high speed Internet access and digital TV service, as well as its digital voice phone service all rolled into a single low monthly bill! This innovative idea of delivering all of your home telecommunications services from one company and itemizing them all on one bill is called bundling and Comcast has been an innovator when it comes to making this concept work for families all over the country! Basically, bundled services reduce the amount of time that you have to spend dealing with bills while decreasing the amount of money that you spend on the services that provide you with access to your information and entertainment.

Naturally, you'll want to make sure that whatever services you get for your home are of the highest quality and best value. Fortunately Comcast agrees with you, which is why it has gone to great lengths to make sure that its high speed Internet service and digital cable TV service are the best available! For one thing, there have been a lot more channels added to the total lineup of available channels. With about three hundred of the best channels currently available, there's really no reason for anyone not to have anything to watch!

Better still, Comcast is an industry leader in providing video on demand options through its ON DEMAND service, which comes with all of its programming packages. ON DEMAND combines pay per view options with free content that you can access whenever you want. It puts the power to choose what to watch into your hands and serves as added protection against not having anything to watch on TV! Another thing that Comcast does for its subscribers is provide a wide degree of latitude in choosing programming packages. With plenty of options ranging from an economical bare bones package all the way up to the most comprehensive package possible, you'll always be able to find the right level of value for your family!

Comcast's high speed Internet service is also a superior value in a variety of different ways. It provides the high bandwidth, low latency connection that makes it extremely suitable for just about any web application that you care to use it for. That means it provides a great way to enjoy everything from streaming video to music downloads to virtual reality in a way that's seamless and reliable. Plus, with the collaboration software available these days you might even be able to work with other people over the Internet!

Of course, speed isn't the only thing that makes an Internet provider a great value. There are also a great deal of extras that are included with Comcast's high speed Internet service! These extras include features that will keep your family and their computers safe and others that will add extra value. For example, you'll get free, high end virus protection software with routine updates for all of your computers! That, along with parental control software, will really increase the level of security that you'll have with the Internet. Other features, like a complementary wireless router and access to lots of great online content, will make using the Internet that much more pleasurable.

All of this combines to ensure that Comcast delivers the best value for all of your home telecommunications needs!

Comcast Helps You Avoid Bundling Blunders

By Rachel Smith

It seems like these days every major telecommunications company is offering some sort of bundled service package. Typically this is a way of marketing telecommunications services to private consumers in such a way that two or more services are invoiced on the same bill and the consumer is often given a major discount in exchange for entrusting that particular company with extra business.

Generally, bundling services like this is a good idea for both you as a consumer and the company that's providing the services for you. You get great convenience and savings and the company gets more business.

Despite the apparent benefits of bundled services, there are some pitfalls that you could experience if you don't shop around carefully. On the other hand, you can avoid many of the pitfalls completely by choosing a higher quality company like Comcast to provide you with your telecommunications needs.

One of the major pitfalls that you could encounter is the possibility of getting a bundled service package from a company that outsources one or more of the services that you've signed up for to another company. This is extremely common among satellite TV companies and traditional phone companies. That's because phone companies are decidedly ill equipped to provide TV and satellite TV companies are similarly ill equipped to handle phone services. Neither are particularly good at providing Internet service either. For example, when you sign up for a satellite TV service that can theoretically be bundled with a home phone calling plan and a high speed Internet connection, you're probably getting the phone service from a traditional telephone company (with all of the expense and frustration that goes with it). The high speed Internet service will either come from the same phone company in the form of DSL or through a satellite Internet company. Neither of these options is particularly good because DSL tends to be relatively slow and satellite Internet service is both slow and expensive. Plus, as if to add insult to injury, the satellite Internet service also comes with a built in time lag which makes it impossible to use with real time applications like multi player video games, VoIP, and video conferencing!

The difference between this type of bundled package and the one that's provided by Comcast is that Comcast's uses digital cable technology instead of the pie in the sky technology of satellites and the archaic technology of phone lines.

Digital cable technology is able to do at least as good of a job of providing TV service as satellite TV and with the implementation of new technology, it will likely be significantly better than satellite in the near future. Digital cable technology also does a better job of providing Internet access in terms of speed, response time, and value. Broad band high speed cable Internet access has about four times the speed that DSL or satellite are capable of and doesn't have the time lag of satellite. A cable based Internet connection is also a much better value than either of the others because, despite its greater speed, it doesn't cost any more than the typical DSL service and only costs about half of the monthly rate for satellite.

In all cable service from a company like Comcast is a much better way to go for bundled home telecommunication services than the satellite TV company or the phone company.

Comcast Cable Package Deals

By Rachel Smith

With all of the things that are sucking money away from typical Americans these days, paying too much for phone service- especially land line phone service- is particularly galling. This form of communication, which is very basic these days, costs a surprising amount of money when you look at the cost of the service and then add in the excessive taxes involved. (In some states, taxes can make up as much as forty percent of the total phone bill!) When you look at the extra cost of all of the calling features that are so useful these days, it seems downright wrong that phone companies should be able to charge so much!

Despite the fact that conventional phone companies appear to have a monopoly in many areas, there is an alternative. That alternative is the cable TV company. Many cable TV companies, Comcast among them, provide the option of subscribing to digital phone service. The phone services offered by these cable TV companies are equivalent to what's offered by conventional phone companies in all of the important ways, yet present a much better deal.

First the ways in which phone service from cable TV companies is equivalent to service form phone companies. Phone service from a cable TV company provides clear sound (if anything, greater sound quality than that of conventional phone companies) thanks to digital technology. Also, unlike VoIP services, these cable TV phone services are one hundred percent compatible with the 911 system so that they can be completely reliable in the event of an emergency. They also use the same kind of phone equipment that conventional phone systems use and allow their users to keep the same phone numbers that they had before switching over. This makes switching to cable based phone services extremely convenient and easy.

The differences between the phone services provided by cable TV companies and those provided by conventional phone companies are mainly the cost and what you can get for any given amount of money. For instance, you can pay a certain amount of money for a basic phone line- one that doesn't have any special calling features of a good deal on long distance built in- from a conventional telephone company or you can pay about the same amount and get a full featured calling plan from a cable TV company. In this context, full featured means the inclusion of plenty of advanced calling features and often free domestic long distance.

The inclusion of free domestic long distance provides a huge resource for saving money because it essentially doesn't add anything to the monthly bill for calls made to numbers anywhere in the United States and Canada, as well as Puerto Rico in the case of many plans. That can provide a lot of savings relatively quickly!

Of course the calling features themselves are also very useful. For example, Caller ID will let you see who's calling you, Call Waiting will let you take important calls even if you're already on the phone, and Voice Mail will handle any calls that you don't want to miss, but don't want to take immediately. In many cases, you'll also be able to block calls from ringing through from unidentified numbers or numbers that you specifically block.

As you can now see, cable TV companies present some great alternatives to the conventional phone company.

Best Comcast High Speed Deals

Times are getting tough for many people when it comes to their finances. The economy isn't doing as well as it was, it's getting tougher to make money, and credit isn't as easily available as it once was. However, families who are looking to tighten their belts have an option that will allow them to enjoy many- if not all- of the luxuries that they've become accustomed to. At least where home entertainment and telecommunications are concerned. This is made possible by the fact that a lot of cable TV companies offer the option of bundling digital cable TV service, high speed Internet and a home phone line together on a single bill. This may not seem that significant besides the fact that a single bill is easier to deal with than three separate bills, but when you look at the fact that most cable TV companies offer discounts when services are bundled together this way, you can see the real benefits.

Cable TV companies have come a long way in the level of service that they offer with the use of digital TV technology. It's well known that digital TV produces a clearer picture than analog TV and that it comes with an on screen program guide of some sort in most cases. However, digital TV also comes with a lot of unseen benefits. For example, the use of digital signals triples the number of channels the typical cable TV company can offer. It also opens up the way for the use of technologies like Switched Digital Video which has the potential to provide access to a virtually unlimited selection of channels. On top of that, digital TV also allows the cable TV companies to offer extras like video on demand, HDTV channels, and digital video recorders.

High speed Internet is another great benefit that's available in these bundles of services. Of course there are lots of different types of high speed Internet technology out there, but digital cable technology is the best available in private homes. That's because a cable offers so much more bandwidth than a phone line and a lot more reliability than any kind of wireless service.

Most cable TV companies provide Internet service with speeds of up to 8 mbps on a regular basis. At least one company has a feature that will boost the speed up to as high as 12 mbps when it detects that a large download has been initiated. Most of these companies also offer extra services that help to protect computers from viruses and spyware. Most will provide you with five or more email addresses as well, along with access to online content.

The digital phone service that these companies offer represents the best way to save money above and beyond the discount that comes with bundling. Digital phone service from cable TV companies provides free long distance for all domestic calls. This presents a way to save a tremendous amount of money when you look at the fact that these calling plans are, on average, the same price as plans from phone companies that don't have this feature. Of course these cable TV companies also provide all of the major call management tools that are available today at no extra charge.

Cable TV companies can be a good resource for saving some money without compromising your quality of life.

Working at home is becoming more popular as the Internet applications become better at allowing people to work together across greater distances. There are a variety of different kinds of online collaboration software that range from simple chatting, VoIP, and document exchange applications available for free through companies like Google, to specialized forms of software that allow relatively large groups of people to meet and work on a project all at once, to virtual worlds like Second Life that allow people to interact in a number of different ways that include actually getting work done.

While it should be obvious that you need a high speed Internet connection in order to work at home in all of these different ways, it's not always obvious that some types of high speed Internet connections work better than others for interacting online and getting things accomplished with other people in real time. In order to get an idea of how to be effective with working online over a high speed Internet connection, it's important to understand the types of Internet connections available.

The first thing that needs to be addressed is dial up services that claim to be able to accelerate download speeds. These may be able to make Internet access faster, but they typically do so by decreasing the resolution of pictures that are downloaded. This does nothing to speed up the transfer of the data needed for online collaboration and therefore won't apply to making online collaboration work.

Among the real kinds of high speed Internet connections that you'll have to choose among are broad band digital cable, DSL, and satellite Internet. Broad band digital cable high speed Internet connections are the best choice by far for working at home and over the Internet. They provide greater bandwidth than the others. In fact, with standard download speeds of 8 mbps, you could have several kinds of collaboration software running at the same time or have other members of your household online while your working without running into bandwidth limitation problems.

DSL is another option for working online, but it doesn't provide as much bandwidth, so it's not as good of a choice. DSL service rarely delivers more than 2 mbps at one time, which severely limits the number of applications that can be run or people that can access the Internet at the same time, making it less than ideal for a small, home based business. Moreover, many DSL connections don't deliver the minimum bandwidth necessary for many kinds of collaboration software. In a lot of cases, distance and poor wiring decrease the available bandwidth down to speeds as low as 256 kbps, which is below the minimum bandwidth needed for applications like Second Life and really cutting it close with others as well.

Satellite Internet is a really poor choice. It's extremely expensive and it has similar kinds of limitations on its bandwidth to DSL. The real sticking point of this kind of Internet delivery technology is that it has a time lag built into it by the distance that data has to travel to and from the satellites. Since signals have to travel over eighty thousand miles total (back and forth two times) at the speed of light, the resulting time lag is likely to disrupt any kind of Internet application that functions in real time.

All of this makes broad band digital cable high speed Internet the best choice for working at home.

Exciting High Speed Internet Options From Comcast

By Rachel Smith

One of the reasons that Comcast offers high speed Internet access along with its other services is because high speed Internet has almost become a necessity these days. Anyone who has used a dial up Internet service lately with any frequency knows that there are just a lot of places on the World Wide Web that you just can't go with that slow of a connection. For example, just about any web page that takes advantage of Flash media will be really slow to load, and some of them won't load at all.

Dial up Internet connections will also slow down almost to a standstill for no particular reason and will often simply stop in the middle of downloading a large file. Of course DSL is much faster than dial up, but it's still not an option for anyone who wants to take advantage of the rich variety of media that's offered by the World Wide Web these days.

For all of these reasons, a true broad band high speed Internet connection, like what Comcast offers, has become a virtual necessity. Comcast's broad band Internet service offers download speeds that can reach as high as eight megabytes per second. That's up to six times faster than DSL and one hundred times faster than dial up. With that kind of speed, it's easy to take advantage of lots of the multimedia experiences that the Internet has to offer. For example, there are now a variety of massive multiplayer online video games that encompass entire virtual worlds. One example of this is Second Life. Second life allows players to interact with each other through virtual avatars.

It's also possible to do business within Second Life and some companies are even holding board meetings in Second Life, and Reuters news agency even maintains a virtual office within the online video game in order to report on things that are happening there.

World of WarCraft is another virtual world where it's possible to built things like castles and make things like swords both of which can be sold to other people in the real world for real money. Comcast's high speed broad band Internet connection will allow you to take part in these two virtual worlds and more.

There are also a lot of different types of media to take advantage of online. In fact, there's so much video, music, and even literature online that you may never need to go to the library or the video store again when you have the bandwidth to take advantage of downloading all of those things. For example, you can download a huge variety of music and an ever growing variety of video from online stores like iTunes. If you ever do need a solid CD or a DVD or a paper based book, you can buy it online and online shopping is a lot more convenient with a high speed Internet connection.

Of course it's common sense that when you have access to the Internet, the malicious computer programs on the Internet and the people who create them have greater access to you. Because of that, it's a good thing that Comcast provides a lot of different levels of protection for you. This protection ranges from free anti virus software and regular updates for that software to optional firewalls.

High speed Internet access is definitely a good thing no matter where you get it, but with a variety of extra features to increase the value of the service, Comcast provides some very good options.

Comcast Cable Special Deals

Dial up is a very slow way of getting online, but many people are still using it because it is simple and cheap. DSL has been around for many years, but it has traditionally been expensive and the extra speed that it gives is not always enough to make up for the effort of getting a new service. Considering the importance of Internet to daily life these days, having only these two options of getting online seems fairly bleak. However, over the last couple years, a different service emerged, known as broadband cable Internet. This service has proven to be a very popular service because it has been able to eliminate many of the problems that plague both dial up and DSL.

Comcast's broadband cable Internet arose out of the knowledge that the infrastructure that delivers cable television also had the capacity to deliver Internet services. Once Comcast decided to go digital with its television services, the company updated all of its underground cables to accommodate more bandwidth transmission and to make it easier to transport data. This upgrade make it possible for the company to add on new broadband cable Internet services without compromising its cable television services. Internet, as a digital medium, is fully compatible with the transmission of digital television, and sharing the same infrastructure for the two services made it possible for Comcast to start offering an Internet service without extreme expense (and thus keeping prices competitive).

What broadband cable Internet excels most at is speed. For instance, when other types of services offer a couple of Mbps as their top speed, Comcast offers up to 8 Mbps. This difference in speed is due to the different technologies that carry services such as DSL and those that carry broadband cable Internet. As would be expected, as technology becomes even more advanced, Comcast will still be able to maintain a higher connection speed than other types of services.

Even at this time, it is possible to see that Comcast's high speed Internet technology is moving forward to the time when even higher speeds are needed. The company added PowerBoost, a way of giving bursts of speed at certain times, to its service recently. Though PowerBoost speeds (which reach 12 Mbps) are not maintained at all times, they come into play when extra speed is necessary. PowerBoost is an innovative way of allocating limited bandwidth to the customers who are in need of more of it at any given time, and the technology will likely become more widespread in the future.

For the basic Internet user, Comcast's high speed Internet services offer more than enough speed to do even extremely bandwidth-intensive applications. They also offer enough speed to provide each member of a household with enough bandwidth to simultaneously get online. Some of the most common uses of the Internet are to check email, share info and photos with friends and family, and to take advantage of online entertainment. Though some of the online entertainment sites require very fast connections, the higher speed Comcast connections provide plenty of speed.

As the popularity of broadband cable Internet keeps on increasing, we will probably soon see the day when other forms of Internet become obsolete. Broadband cable Internet provides a much higher quality service but, thanks to its reliance on existing infrastructure, is cost-effective for all users.

Comcast Cable Promotions

The cost of phone service has been going surprisingly quickly for years now. This has prompted a lot of people to look for alternatives to getting their home phone service from the traditional phone company. The good news is that land line phone service for many homes is available through cable TV companies.

This may come as a surprise to you initially. After all, you may be wondering what cable TV companies know about phone service. When you think about it though, it makes sense for cable TV companies to get into the phone business. Cables bring information into your home in the form of TV programming, and in the case of high speed Internet, those same cables can allow you to transmit data from your home as well. This two way transmission of information is all that's really needed for voice communication over the phone. Therefore, all the cable TV industry had to do in order to offer this service was learn the details about telephones.

The results of this endeavor are pretty impressive in a number of ways. For instance, the calling plans on phone lines from the cable TV companies consistently deliver better features, service, and value than the calling plans that you can get from the traditional phone company. For example, you can pay a small fortune for a basic phone line from the phone company. This is the kind of basic service that doesn't have any advanced calling features and sticks you with the most expensive long distance service. For roughly the same price though, you can get the cable company's basic phone line which has just about all of the advanced calling features that you could want, along with all of the domestic long distance calls that you care to make (including those to Canadian numbers) at no additional charge.

The calling features that come standard on the plans from the cable TV companies are extremely useful both for your convenience and your security. For instance, Caller ID can tell you who's calling before you pick up the phone so that you can simply ignore the calls from people you don't want to talk to and answer calls from people who you do want to talk to. Call Waiting lets you take a call from one person while you're on the line with another. This is especially useful for situations when you want to talk to one person even though you're expecting an important call from another. Voice mail is somewhat like an answering machine, but the messages are stored by the phone company and it can take messages even when you're on the line with someone else. It's a good way to deal with calls when you aren't sure whether or not you should take them.

Another advantage of getting a phone line from the cable TV company is that it's completely compatible with the existing phone system. This means being able to keep your existing number and being able to use 911 service with the confidence that your address will be relayed along with your emergency call. Those are two features that you won't necessarily get with the VoIP or mobile phone options.

Bundled Telecommunications Service Package

By Rachel Smith

Bundling telecommunications services together into a single package is a marketing tool that benefits both consumers and the companies that supply the services. At least that's the case under ideal conditions. Under less than ideal conditions, the companies involved see most of the benefits while the benefits that the consumers enjoy can easily be offset by a new set of frustrations.

The idea behind bundled telecommunications services is that instead of getting your TV service from a TV service provider, your Internet access from an Internet service provider, and your phone service from the local phone company; you can instead enjoy all three of these products (or any two of them actually) through the same company. Not only do you have to deal with only one bill per month- rather than three separate ones- but the company will also discount the cost of its services. The company benefits by making itself more attractive to consumers who want to simplify aspects of their lives and by getting the revenues of more than one service.

Of course all of these things happen under the ideal conditions that you might expect to find if your get a bundled package through a company like Comcast. Comcast does a number of things that define good bundled services. For example, it keeps all of the services that it provides in house rather than farming them out to other providers. This gives Comcast more control over the services that it provides and therefore the level of customer service associated with them. This also allows Comcast to offer the benefit of using superior technologies.

The practice of outsourcing services to other companies is extremely common, and actually made necessary by the fact that many companies simply don't have the technology to offer some of the services that they'd like to include in the bundle. For example, a satellite TV provider will have trouble providing phone service, and phone companies have yet to figure out a good way to provide TV service over a phone line. While bundling services from several different companies together does often provide the convenience and savings that makes bundled service packages so attractive in general, the fact that different services are administered by different companies makes it more difficult for customers to get decent service when something goes wrong. It's simply too easy for the different companies involved to pass the buck on customer service issues and therefore not bother to solve any problems that may crop up.

Another thing that can make bundled services from separate companies a bad deal is because they often take advantage of less than ideal technologies. For example, DSL is often passed off as high speed Internet in these bundled packages while Comcast's broad band cable high speed Internet service is about six times faster (and often much faster than that because of the slow speed of many DSL connections) and only costs a couple of extra dollars a month. Satellite Internet is a much more advanced technology than DSL, but it's no faster and may actually perform worse because of the time lag created by the time that it takes the data to travel the thousands of miles to and from the satellites. Any phone service that involves a traditional phone company is sure to cost too much and provide too little when compared to Comcast's home phone service.

While bundling of telecommunications services is definitely an idea that has a lot of benefits, there are a number of pitfalls to look out for.

Best Comcast High Speed Internet Deals

In many cases, you'll also be able to block calls from ringing through from unidentified numbers or numbers that you specifically block.

As you can now see, cable TV companies present some great alternatives to the conventional phone company.

Bundled Services Revolutionize Telecommunications Industry

By Rachel Smith

Bundled services are the latest thing to hit the telecommunications industry, or at least the branch of the industry that provides services for people in their homes. Comcast is one of the premier companies to offer digital cable TV, high speed Internet, and home phone services that are bundled together in the sense that Comcast installs and administers all three services and that customers receive one bill for all of the services that they get from Comcast.

There are a couple of benefits for the customers to go for all three of these services from Comcast. For one thing, it's simple: there's only one company to deal with for all three services. For another thing, Comcast offers free installation for all three services. Perhaps most importantly, the customer saves money by having all three services bundled together versus getting them from separate companies.

Of course, there are benefits to Comcast when it comes to supplying digital cable TV, high speed Internet access, and a home phone line to customers. The obvious benefit is that Comcast makes a profit on each of the three services rather than just making a profit on one or to of them individually. The second, and perhaps more important reason for Comcast to offer these three services at a discount is in order to attract customers that might ordinarily subscribe to satellite TV, or even get some customers away from satellite TV providers.

There's been a long feud between the satellite TV industry and the cable TV industry. Each have their own advantages, but as cable TV technology has improved, the playing field between the two has largely been leveled. Now bundling digital cable TV service along with home phone service and high speed Internet service is Comcast's latest strategy for getting an edge on its competitors that use satellite technology.

The good news for Comcast is that the strategy has worked. For all of its strengths when it comes to delivering TV programming, satellite technology is extremely expensive and commensurately inefficient when it comes to delivering phone and high speed Internet services. By contrast, phone and high speed Internet services take advantage of variations on the same cable technology that Comcast uses to deliver TV. Therefore all three services fit together perfectly.

Of course, individually all of the services that Comcast offers are pretty impressive. For example, the TV programming is delivered with an all digital signal for the best possible quality. The digital TV service also comes with up to two hundred and seventy five channels (more than enough to compete with satellite TV) various forms of video on demand services, digital music channels, and HDTV channels. The high speed Internet service provides download speeds of up to 8 megabytes per second (which is about four times as fast as the most you can get out of a satellite Internet connection), and plenty of value adding bonus and security features. The home phone service will likely save you a ton of money because of the fact that it includes all of the domestic long distance calls that you care to make. It also includes things like caller ID and voice mail as standard features.

The bundling of services is a good idea both for Comcast and for consumers.

How Do I Decode the TOEFL iBT Writing Task?

By Michael Buckhoff

Before beginning the TOEFL iBT Writing Task, You'd Better Read This!

Before you begin the TOEFL Writing Exam, it is important to read the question very carefully. You should know what the writing task is. To illustrate the importance of this, consider the following situation: Your wife tells you to remove a food stain from the carpet. She asks you to use a special product called "Stain Be Gone." You venture into the laundry room and instead of getting "Stain Be Gone", you get another chemical called "Clorox," a type of bleach. You start to clean the carpet with the chemical and what happens? The brown carpet turns an awful color shade of yellow! Even though you had good intentions and you worked diligently to clean the carpet, you did not get the results you or your wife expected because you used a different chemical; consequently, you ruined the carpet.

The same applies to TOEFL iBT writing. If you do not follow the instructions the prompt gives you, no matter how hard you work the end result will not be what the reader expected. As a result, you will not receive the score you deserve. Consider the following three writing prompts:

1. Some people say that it is best to be loyal and to work for one company during one's life. Others take the opposite view and say it is better to change jobs frequently in one's life. Discuss these positions, using specific examples of both. Then tell which one you agree with and explain why.

2. Students should be required to take general education classes in a university, in addition to specialized classes in their major. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give specific examples to support your position.

3. The automobile and the airplane are important inventions of the 20th century. Both of these inventions have had an important effect on our lives. Choose another invention that you think is important. Give specific reasons for your choice.

Do these three prompts look the same to you? Do they have the same requirements? If you answered no, you are already on your way to being able to write a successful essay.

The first prompt may be broken into four different tasks: The essay asks you to discuss both positions, which signifies (1) you must write a little bit about why some people say that it is best to be loyal to work for one company during one's life; (2) you must write a little bit about why others say it is better to change jobs frequently in one's life; (3) you need to tell which of the positions you agree with; and (4) you should defend why (i.e., give reasons). It is best to remain neutral until near the end, you do not state your opinion first in this type of writing style.

The second prompt can be broken into two argumentative tasks- (1) that of choosing whether you agree or disagree with the statement: "In addition to their specialized classes in their major, students should also be required to take general education classes in a university." (2) You should also give reasons to support your opinion. Stating your argument in the introduction in this type of essay, you assert which view you support. Then in the remainder of the essay, you defend why you support that view.

In the third writing prompt, yet another type of argumentative essay, the task is simple- (1) that of choosing another invention that you think is important. (2) You should give specific reasons for your choice. The word "another" means other than the automobile or the airplane. Consequently, if you write about the airplane or the automobile, you have not followed the instructions for this writing prompt.

The concept is simple: think before you write. Make sure you understand what the writing task is.

Comcast Internet - A Good Alternative to Lesser Internet Services

By Rachel Smith

These days everyone wants a high speed Internet connection in their own home, but many people are confused about how to go about getting it. This is largely because of all of the different types of high speed Internet services that are being marketed to the general public. After all, there's satellite Internet access, DSL, municipal WiFi, and even some dial up services marketing themselves as alternatives to high speed Internet access. When it comes to getting the best kind of high speed Internet connection, broad band cable from a company like Comcast is the best alternative for a variety of reasons.

Broad band cable high speed Internet access provides more bandwidth than any other kind of high speed Internet service that's available to most residential users. Most will provide around 8 mbps and Comcast comes with a special service that's called Power Boost, which can bump that speed up to about 12 mbps for brief periods of time. This is a lot more bandwidth than most other types of services can offer. Municipal WiFi is the only one that comes close, but it has plenty of problems associated with it. For one thing, it's not that widely available. For another, because it's based on radio signals, it's really not that secure- people who know what they're doing can sit at your curb with a laptop and see what you're looking at online.

Another popular alternative is DSL. DSL provides Internet access over phone lines, which makes it widely available. But those phone lines aren't very good at providing bandwidth. After all, phone lines are skinny compared to the coaxial cables that Comcast uses. Because of that difference, DSL only delivers about 2 or 3 mbps, to Comcast's 8 or 12. Often times, DSL service is much slower than that because of the distance that the signal has to travel over phone lines.

Satellite based Internet service is very widely available, but it has enough problems with it that it's really the Internet connection of last resort best left for people who live out in the middle of nowhere! Satellite Internet has about the same top end speed as DSL, but it costs more than broad band digital cable high speed Internet acces from Comcast and DSL put together on a monthly basis and requires hundreds of dollars worth of equipment just to set the service up.

The dial up Internet connections that market themselves as alternatives to high speed Internet aren't worth bothering with. They're capable of downloading web pages faster than normal dial up connections, but only because they filter out the pictures to some extent- the faster the download, the lower the resolution of the pictures. It does nothing to accelerate software, video, audio, or picture downloads.

By contrast, broad band cable high speed Internet access through a cable TV company like Comcast has a lot of advantages. Basically, it's a high speed Internet connection that normal people can use to take advantage of the video, music, and other resources that the Internet has to offer these days.

Comcast Goes Way Beyond Cable TV

By Dawn Amerson

When most people think of Comcast, they think of cable TV. While it's true that Comcast is the leading provider of cable TV in the United States right now, you can also get a huge variety of other telecommunications needs including high speed Internet and voice communications in addition to the cable TV for which this company is so well known.

The cable TV service provided by Comcast has some truly incredible features and options. For example, you can choose from a variety of different programming packages, all of which come with digital receivers, forty five channels of digital music, all of your local channels, and access to the ON DEMAND Pay Per View service. The introductory level programming package, Enhanced Cable with ON DEMAND, has all of the features mentioned above. The Digital Classic programming package has all of the features presented above, plus over two hundred digital TV channels.

The next programming package in line, the ON DEMAND Silver Plus package has everything from the Digital Classic package but with the addition of thirty more channels including Encore, and your choice of Showtime, Starz, HBO, The Movie Channel, or Cinemax. The premier package, ON DEMAND Platinum Plus gives you everything from the above programming packages, but allows you to watch all six of the movie channels that you would otherwise have to choose among.

You may have noticed that the channels in these programming packages are all digital. The fact that Comcast uses the digital TV format to transmit its channels provides an important distinction between it and other cable TV companies in terms of convenience and quality for its subscribers. Comcast Is The Leader For Telecommunications and Entertainment

By Dawn Amerson

While Comcast is a name commonly associated with cable TV, what a lot of people don't realize is that this company can provide them with a lot of other telecommunications options as well. That's because Comcast is not only a cable TV expert, but a telecommunications expert in general.

Perhaps the most common service that's associated with cable companies, besides of course cable TV, is broadband high speed Internet. When you sign up for broadband Internet service from Comcast, you're opening up a whole world that you may never have seen before if you've been surfing at dial up speeds. A broadband Internet connection can provide you access to the entire world wide web at speeds that can be up to seventy times faster than dial up. With that kind of speed at your fingertips you'll be able to download whole libraries of digital music. You'll also be able to download huge video files- maybe even full length movies! A broadband Internet connection also makes it easy to get software updates whenever you need them, which is a key to keeping your computer in top condition. Also, broadband Internet is so fast, that you're entire family can surf at the same time with no noticeable decrease in performance!

Comcast doesn't only give you access to the Internet at blistering speeds, it also helps you make the most of all of the information and entertainment while protecting your family and your computers from all of the threats out there on the Internet. For example, you can get access to special web content for kids, streaming music, a wide variety of photos, and lots of online games. You'll also be kept safe by the option of including a firewall that will keep out malicious programs that can contribute to identity theft and other forms of crime.

In addition to various software options, Comcast can provide you with a cable modem, that will actually connect you to the Internet, as well as a wireless router. A wireless router is the first step in creating a wireless network in your home. With a wireless network, you can access the Internet on every computer in your home. You'll also be able to use the network with many other devices like smart phones and various entertainment devices.

One other service that Comcast offers, and perhaps is not as well known is phone service. Phone service with Comcast comes with a number of conveniences and value adding features that you have to pay extra for from other telephone service providers. Things like voice mail, call waiting, call forwarding, Caller ID, and other features that add to your bill from other phone services, are all included as part of your calling plan with Comcast. As an added convenience, you can even access your voice mail online which is enormously convenient while you're traveling. Perhaps more important than any of the extra features is the fact that unlimited long distance is included in your calling plan!

Of course, when it comes to great cable TV service, Comcast still delivers the best there is. With access to over 275 channels, including many in HDTV, and options like ON DEMAND Pay Per View and Digital Sports Packages; you'll always have something to watch. You'll also have access to an on screen program guide so that you can always decide what you want to watch.

Comcast clearly provides plenty of options for anyone who wants to stay connected by voice, the Internet, or who just wants great entertainment!

Cable Provides Superior High Speed Internet Access

By Rachel Smith

With the Internet constantly growing, you may be seriously shortchanging yourself if you don't have high speed Internet right in your home. Getting high speed Internet though is easier said than done. After all, there are a lot of different companies using a lot of different technologies to provide "high speed" or "broad band" Internet access, but many of the technologies that make these claims provide very different connection times. In fact, it seems like most of these companies' definitions of high speed Internet access is anything that's faster than dial up!

The cable TV company Comcast helps to clear up some of this confusion. That's because Comcast utilizes its digital cable technology to offer a connection that really is faster- up to twelve megabytes per second actually. That 12 megabytes per second is for short periods of time and is meant to help out with the bigger downloads. But even when the speed isn't kicked up to 12 megabytes per second, Comcast still delivers an impressive 8 megabytes per second.

In order to fully appreciate the kind of speed that a cable TV company like Comcast can supply with its high speed Internet access, you need to look at some of the competing technologies. For example, you might want to look into the details of DSL. DSL is often marketed as a "broad band" or "high speed" Internet technology. It's delivered over conventional phone lines, so it's available in a variety of places. However, DSL speeds can be seriously compromised by the quality of phone lines and the distance that the data has to travel over them. Speeds decrease with lower quality phone lines and when the data has to travel over them a longer distance. Because of these constraints, residential DSL download speeds are never more than 3 megabytes per second, and they're often more like 268 kilobytes per second. Sure, that's faster than dial up, but it's far slower than the 8 megabytes per second that you can get out of broad band cable from Comcast.

Another common alternative for high speed Internet is satellite based Internet service. Satellite based Internet has the advantage of being available anywhere, but its shortcomings and high cost make it the alternative of last resort for anyone who bothers to shop around. It's no faster than DSL and is extremely expensive with hundreds of dollars of required equipment and monthly subscription fees that are 50 dollars or more.

To make matters even worse, satellite Internet has a very noticeable time lag built into it because of the distance that the signals have to travel to the satellites (22,000 miles each way!). That time lag makes satellite Internet really annoying at best for real time applications like VoIP and online gaming and makes those applications impossible at worst!

Broad band digital cable high speed Internet service from Comcast is a very good alternative when compared to these others. It doesn't have the lag time, it's obviously much faster, and since it costs about the same as DSL, it's really a much better value than either.

In short, you're really shortchanging yourself if you're using any high speed Internet service other than cable.
