LG Neon: A Sleek Phone For Everyone

By Martin W. Hagerty

In a world of increasingly popular smartphones people who cant afford a top of the line phone might have trouble finding a suitable cellular device. Many consumers just need a phone for simple messaging and phone call usage. The LG Neon is such a phone. It is a bare bones cell phone with a neat touch screen and a camera that actually takes decent looking pictures.

Firstly the LG Neon is a good looking phone. It has a very smooth and modern design. The phone has rounded edges and no hard lines, which also make the phone very comfortable to hold in ones hand. The Neon is also very light. With its light weight and sleek design the phone fits neatly in ones pocket and doesnt feel incredibly bulky or heavy. Most noticeably the phone features a touch screen. Oddly enough though its only usage is only for dialing numbers. One would expect the touch screen to perform more tasks but anyone looking for such features will be disappointed. The full QWERTY keyboard is found underneath the slide compartment. The keyboard is not cramped at all and is very comfortable to use. One will be able to easily thumb messages. The LG Neon is also able to sync up with many messaging and email services such as AIM, AOL, Yahoo Messenger, and even Windows Live Messenger.

The camera found on the LG Neon actually takes decent photos. There are numerous settings and image option controls such as three quality settings, five white balance presets, five color effects, 4x zoom, self-timer, and three shutter tones including a silent option. There is no flash so make sure any picture you would like to take is in a well lit area. Otherwise the pictures will appear grey and foggy. Other than that the actual picture quality is pretty decent. The camera can also record video in unfortunately only two resolutions. Recording onto a Micro SD card will allow users to record longer videos.

The LG Neon does not have any Wi-Fi or 3G support. Without the support of the online services downloading content will take quite a while on this phone. At about 12 minutes per MB the speed is very sluggish. Websites load equally slow especially those that are content heavy.

The call quality on the phone was great. There was no interference during the calls and no static whatsoever. The microphone on the phone is great at isolating the callers voice and the person on the other end will be able to understand you quite well. The speakerphone didnt work so well. Anyone on the other end will sound low despite the volume options. Additionally listening to music on the speakerphones will sound low too. If you want to use the LG Neon as a music player you should purchase a pair of headphones.

The LG Neon is a satisfactory phone for anyone looking for something that isnt so expansive. It exceeds at providing consumers with a great phone service as well as text messaging, camera/video recorder, and basic web browsing functions.
