A Call To Standardize The Cell Phone Charger

By Jackson Gregory

If you are like me you are probably sick of how many different cell phone chargers there are. Whenever i get a new phone i have to have a specific charger that fits it's specific charging port. Its getting to be rediculous because if ever i'm without that specific cord i am dead in the water if my phone decides to give out.

Verizon and other large cell phone companies have recently been trying to standardize one end of the cell phone charger cord. These newer cell phone chargers have a USB connector on one end that allows you to plug the phone into a computer to charge it. Thanks big cell phone companies, except what about the actual end that plugs into the phone, can you standardize that one too?

When confronted about the reason's cell phone makers make different size cell phone charger ports, cell phone manufacturers claim that design and power usage of the phone determines the type of port used. Hopefully with the iphone being so popular, cell phone makers will make phones that all do the same things and standardize the port. Just like computers, cell phones should eventually come around and standardize the ports after enough people complain. Thats the key though, is that we need to stand up and share our frustration with our cell phone makers and providers.

The world of computers have also gone through this port standardizing a few years back. A few years ago there were a ton of different computer manufacturers that all had specific ports specific to the brand. After enough complaints, these companies now all share some standardized ports such as USB technology. Today you can buy a mouse or keyboard without having to worry if it will work or not because your computer comes standard with a USB port.

It is only going to be a matter of time before the cell phone makers will do the same thing. The thing to remember is that the computer world did not make the changes until they got enough complaints to actually make the change. I'm not trying to rally up a revolution, but we need to raise our voices to these bigger companies and express the frustration. Nothing is ever going to change unless they know that their consumers are upset about their products.

We all love cell phones and find them extremely useful. I have nothing against the cell phones on the market, only with the way the manufacturers make us buy specific cords to charge them. With enough complaints we can force the change.
