Never Miss a Phone Call With a Voicemail System

By Caressa Waechter

At its simplest, voicemail systems actually works as an answering machine. However most voice mail systems have advanced and offer many more services then just an answering machine system. Current voice mail systems will offer call transfer services, voice introduction for forwarded messages, the ability to be paged when you have a message, the ability to send messages to multiple voice mailboxes, and the option of creating personal greetings depending on the caller.

A voice mail system is itself a small computer. Very large voice mail systems are actually quite large. When you call into the voice mail system you leave a message that is stored on a hard drive. The actual recording of the voice message works very much like recording a CD.

To access your messages you just need a password that allows you access to your messages. Once voice mail was a luxury, mainly found only in companies but today it is standard to have voice mail on all phones, particularly cell phones.

The very first voice mail system was a PBX system used by corporations and businesses. As voicemail became more popular other voice mail systems became available including stand-alone systems.

The parts of all voice mail systems include a disk controller and drives that store the incoming messages, a central processor that runs the voice mail software, a telephone interface and system disk that contains the user directories and system software. The best voice mail systems are the ones that are the easiest to use, as some systems can be very complicated.
