Don't Settle for Poor Business Card Printing--Spend Money on Quality

By Kate Conard

Imagine the best business cards in your pockets. Something lucrative, vivid and full of impact. That's what it means carrying around great business cards. Business card printing allows you to have the best market tool available, whether it's meeting colleagues, potential clients or out during events.

Business cards bear the company's business information and these are shared every time there is a formal introduction between parties to serve as memory aid. You cannot look past the importance of business cards.

There are techniques to look for when you are dealing with business card printing.

Card stock is typically used for business card printing; however, this deals with cost. The thicker the paper, the more expensive the print job will be. Usually card stock is printed on 350 g/m2 or 12pt in thickness. Look for this when you are placing your order. All business cards should have bleeds, ensuring that if color is extended to the edges, it creates a good clean cut rather than have a white border around it. Typically, during printing the image shifts from page to page. That is why bleeds are necessary to prevent typical printing errors. Bleeds are 1/8 to 1/4 of inch around the file. Finally, 350 dpi files should only be submitted to printers to ensure quality printing every time.

Another important element to printing great business cards is ensuring CMYK process is followed. CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) is a type of printing process that overprints the colors on top of each to achieve the desired effect of the colors in your graphic file.

Besides CMYk printing process, you can take your cards and get them printed digitally. However, a clear warning, the quality of your cards will suffer. Digital printing is similar to a copier, in the sense that the colors are just added on the paper. Offset printing as it's called is the best format of printing.
