Reviewing the Samsung UE55B7000

By Calvin Diaz

Spending A Few Minutes with the Samsung UE55B7000 LCD TV helps to show a TV that is fully loaded and ready to go. It is extremely thin due to its use of LEDs or light emitting diodes, which Samsung has placed along its edges to improve backlighting capability, for one. There is almost no other television on the market in this price range that comes close to being as thin as this particular television.

Samsung has built this particular model to be a 55 inch television that utilizes a liquid crystal display that comes in extremely sharp and clear due to a 1920x1080 resolution capability. There is a wide color enhancer driven through use of a Samsung-proprietary LED engine. Additionally, it supports 100 Hz of video capability with absolutely no use of a fluorescent tube anywhere in this TV.

The thing that helps LED TVs stand out in one of a number of ways is that they tend to be not only extremely thin but also extremely energy efficient. Certainly more so than a standard LCD TV. Those light emitting diodes which have been placed along the edge of the screen means that the TV casing will be very, very thin. No fluorescent tubes, in other words, means the very skinny television.

In order to help add to the value of this TV -- which will not be cheap, to be honest -- Samsung has thoughtfully included a number of multimedia and networking capabilities that just about every expert says makes this TV one of the best. For starters, the television can be networked to a PC via either a standard Ethernet cable or by using a wireless adapter for any home network.

This wireless functionality is gained through use of one of several USB ports that have been built into the television. The computer will, of course, have to have DLNA software loaded, but Samsung has included a software suite that will help to make this possible. As if that wasn't enough, this TV can play any number of video, photo or other multimedia files through a USB port.

As far as the picture screen itself goes, Samsung has created a variation of the same laptop computer screens that started coming on the market in 2006. The name Samsung has given it is the "Ultra Clear Panel." As anyone who has had a laptop from that year forward can tell you, the picture will be extremely vivid, clear and very rich.

Surround sound is delivered via use of a unit that includes not only Dolby Digital Plus but also a fine RMS HD function that Samsung refers to as "Trusurround." There is also a nice woofer that is powered by 15 watts of onboard capability. When you include all the other features such as a smart content manager among others, there is practically nothing that this television can't do.

When Considering the Samsung UE55B7000 LCD TV, remember that it is a 55 inch dynamo that is probably the thinnest model of its kind on the market today. It won't be cheap, but when you consider everything that will be included with this particular television -- including a superior picture -- it's hard to see vary much of a downside for a TV in this segment of the market.
