Is the Samsung UE46B7000 Model Worth Considering?

By Douglas Ross

We all know someone who had a huge flat screen Model back in the'90's. Perhaps you even had one or still have one and want to finally replace it with the newest thing in Television. Well if you are looking to replace that big black box then you have come to the understanding that big is not necessarily better. What is good now a days is not necessarily size but quality of the picture. The Samsung UE46B7000 LED Television is the perfect example that bold not big is beautiful.

You have joined thousands of others in realising that the Model of the 90's is not what is best today. Those big boxes have been replaced by streamlined versions like the UE46B7000 offering the same screen size but a much better quality picture.

Now that you have decided to shop for that new Television like a UE46B7000 you are finding yourself getting dizzy by all the abbreviations. You can't figure out DLP from LED or CRT or HD Television. You just want to know what it all means.

CRT = Cathode Ray Tube. This type of "Big Screen" Set is basically old technology and uses electronic 'guns' to cast an image onto a large glass envelope.

High Definition relates to the amount of little dots or pixels that fill a screen. High definition is not really a type of Television but rather a moniker that covers any picture such as that on the UE46B7000 that contains a larger amount of pixels than the old style televisions.

DLP = Digital Light Processing. This technology utilises thousands of individual pixel cells or microscopic fluorescent light bulbs and a Digital micro mirror device consisting of more than 1. 3 million micro mirrors to project the image.

LED = Light emitting Diode. LEDs such as the Samsung UE46B700 LED Set, do as the name applies they produce a greater amount of light which provides a better quality picture with a broader colour palate. This provides a picture that is truer to the original image. More shades of colours means a better image, blues are blues and greens are greener, they do not fade all into one colour somewhere between green and blue.

While DLP and LED basically accomplish the same thing they use two different methods to do it. Both these styles are available in the same sizes and basically the same price ranges.

Picture for picture LED's are the right choice. They provide a better image than DLP particularly in the small to medium size pictures - such as the UE46B7000. Once you get past the 52" size they tend to be a little closer in quality, but overall LED definitely provides the better image.

With its extremely thin profile this Television looks like it couldn't possibly deliver good quality, but as previously mentioned big is no longer better. The pixel ratio of the Samsung UE46B7000 is the highest in its range and consequently delivers the optimum picture in the minimal space required.

While the Samsung UE46B7000 LED TV may be thin its 46" screen provides a screen size that is a great choice for most viewing conditions. You want to consider the size of the room and how close the seating is to the screen and you do not want to oversize a room. This philosophy makes the 46" screen the perfect choice for most rooms. This Set truly is bold without being big and bulky.
