Nobody Can Stop the GPS Revolution!

By Richard Eberhard

The world of GPS systems is swift moving and fast changing. In the world of navigational systems, smaller is better. It seems consumers clamber for increasingly smaller and faster global positioning units.

Everybody hates a traffic jam, and I suspect this is one of the major reasons GPS for the car are so popular now. Being able to get rerouted around a wreck on the highway is such a nice benefit of GPS units. But the excuse that you are late for a meeting because you got lost will no longer work. Oh well, at least we don't have to waste gas driving around looking for a station. Gas station locations are embedded right into the GPS data.

Corporate executives love GPS as it allows them to be independent in every new destination city. They can find exactly the coffee shop or restaurant or office supply store they prefer and get their own directions to it. Day-long seminars are not so stressful when you know you won't be getting lost.

Hiking and camping just got a whole lot safer with the latest generation of affordable hand held GPS units. Every outdoor enthusiast should have a hand held GPS. Always find your way back to base camp and thereby keep safe. Join the fun and take up geocaching, too! More and more hikers and campers are able to carry these units as they are getting more affordable and more feature-rich with each new version.

It is amazing how many applications are now being combined in consumer navigational devices. If you have ever thought of a combination application for GPS, rest assured there is probably some engineer designing your device as you are creating it in your mind. The growth of global positioning units has been and continues to be phenomenal.

Consumers had been waiting a long time for the development of the cellular-internet-gps combination unit, and the iPod G3 fit the bill. All consumer electronic units which combine GPS with any other gadget are outselling their individual counterparts. Wonder what is in store for combo units?

The entire sport of fishing has changed due to Fish Finders. Fish finders are increasing in popularity. These units use sonar signals to locate fish under or next to a boat. And of course you can get the GPS coordinates of your location to remember that great new spot for next time.

The sport of golf has not been left untouched by the GPS revolution. Many golfers are using hand held golf global positioning units for range finding and these units are getting improved annually.

Ignoring the GPS revolution will not cause it to go away. Give up, give in, and try out one of the newest GPS gadgets.
