Drop Your Landline and Switch To VOIP

By Steven Donlin

Voip, or Voice Over Internet Protocol is used for transmission of voice of an IP based network.

Analog signals are converted into digital signals. These signals are sent over the internet in the form of data packets. On the receiving end, the process is simply reversed. Different codecs are used for encoding speech so it can be transmitted over the net. A session control protocol is used to begin and end the calls.

Advantages of VoIP

Affordable

The monthly fee of Voip is one of the main advantages of making the switch from traditional landlines. The user pays a fixed monthly rate but you are permitted to make unlimited calls to anywhere in the United States and Canada. In addition, the international rates of Voip service are far lower than that of traditional phone companies.

Flexibility

Portability is another main benefit of Voip service. With a traditional cordless phone, you can carry on the conversation only over a small distance. With Voip, you can continue the same conversation as long as you are in range of a broadband connection. Even if you are going on vacation, you can bring your voip equipment with you and make calls wherever there is an internet connection.

Advanced Features

The extra features of Voip services will literally blow you away. Call waiting, caller ID, call forwarding, three-way calling and automatic call screening are just a few. The best part? There is no additional charge for these services. None, zero, NADA! They are all bundled together with an unlimited calling plan. How can you beat that?

No special hardware

There is no special hardware to purchase in order to make calls with Voip. You simply use your existing internet connection and home network.

A few more features which may be bundled with certain plans:

Account manager Call blocking Speed dial list Voice mailbox Customized ring tones

With VoIP, you get a secure connection to make calls that could not be found in land line phones.
