Sex and the City who? Years after SATC's reign, the new series to watch over at HBO is the unabashedly sexual series, True Blood. An adaptation of Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mystery series, the show centers on Sookie Stackhouse [Ana Paquin], a telepathic waitress who works at Merlotte's in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. It is indeed a good thing to know that you can now watch True Blood TV show online.
True Blood centers on Sookie Stackhouse [Ana Paquin], a telepathic waitress who lives in Bon Temps, Louisiana. Sookie is an outsider looking in until her path crosses that of Bill Campton [Stephen Moyer], a 173-year old vampire she falls in love with. Add to the murky brew the serial murders of several human women known to have affairs with vampires.
Show creator Allan Ball is credited with making the dead appear glamorous in Six Feet Under. Ball, however, gave full reign to his death fixation by injecting True Blood with life-infusing sex, not only sex but carnal and oftentimes animalistic sex. One of these involved Sookie and Bill making out in the middle of a graveyard, which viewers can watch when they download True Blood online.
Like Six Feet Under, True Blood is unsparing in presenting the depth of its colorful characters. There's Sookie's brother Jason [Ryan Kwanten], the local Lothario who in Season One was accused of murdering a lover. Then there's Lafayette [Nelsan Ellis], Merlotte's cook who also part-times as Jason's gay drug pusher; Tara, Sookie's bestfriend who in Season One was involved in a bizarre exorcism rite; and Sam Merlotte, Sookie's boss, who is secretly in love with her and who also happens to be a shape-shifter.
Ball had a brainwave about the series after he came across Harris' Dead Until Dark, the first installment in the vampire series. He read the entire series and became interested in bringing Harris' vision to the small screen.
The books had two other adaptation options when Ball approached their author. But in the end, Harris chose to work with him because she liked his enthusiasm and felt that Ball understood what she was doing with the books.
When it premiered on September 2008, True blood garnered a very modest 1.44 million viewers. But when word of mouth went around about the sex scenes, this figure jumped to reach 6.8 million a week in November, which included repeat and on-demand viewings.
If the saying sex sells is anything to go by, then Ball and HBO certainly did find a goldmine in the show. Watch True Blood TV show online now.
