PDA with Fingerprint Reader - the HP iPaq hx2750

By Matt Ryan

The HP iPaq hx2750 is HP's latest addition to pocket PC's. The overall design is sturdy and functional - the rubber grips, on the side of the phone, make it easy for users to handle the phone, along with adding a little protection in case the phone is dropped. HP has integrated many technologies, within this PDA, including a fingerprint reader - their first ever.

The HP iPaq hx2750 has your standard touch screen, which is a 3.5-inch TFT screen. As with many touch screen phones, the screens are sensitive and are not scratch resistant. However, this model has an added feature for screen protection. There is a clear screen protector that protects the screen when the phone is not being used, and easily flips open when users need access to their data. This PDA not only shows users the amount of battery life left, but also shows how much memory is available for use - all visible on the home screen.

There is 192MB of available memory, on the iPaq hx2750, with additional CompactFlash and SDIO / MMC slots for storage. Battery life and multimedia performance have been increased with the integration of HP's SpeedStep and Wireless MMX technologies.

Like many other PDA's, this unit comes with a 3.5-inch TFT touch screen. This screen is perfect for maneuvering around your phone, typing up documents, and whatever else you may use your new PDA for. Touch screens can be a bit sensitive, especially when stored for travel. For this reason alone, HP installed a clear screen protector, which stays closed, for protection, whenever the phone is not being used. In order to access your touch screen, simply flip up the screen protector and you're good to go.

The price of pocket PC's are slowly coming down; however, HP has not lowered the sticker, on this model, by much. Standard sticker price, for the iPaq hx2750 is around $549. The sticker price, alone, makes this product primarily available to the business sector rather than to everyday consumers.

Even though there are technologies integrated, into this unit, to help prolong the battery life, a standard full charge would only provide a few hours of power. If everything, including wireless, is turned off, you could stretch the battery life out to about 4 1/2 hours. This being said, the purchase of additional chargers and batteries might be a good place to start if you purchase this phone.

Browsing through different PDA's, you may notice that the iPaq is a bit bulkier than most. This unit measures around 4.7" x 3" x 0.6" and weighs around 5.8 ounces. Its design was created for durability, stability, and functionality, not to be cute.

Overall, if you're looking for functionality, and not style, the HP iPaq hx2750 is a great fit - if you can fit it into your budget. The applications, security, and functionality, offered to you through this PDA, is hard to pass up.
