The word is out and the craze has started, Director Tim Burton's, "Alice In Wonderland' is in production and from the buzz that's going around, it will be one of his best films ever.
The public is anxious to see any bit of footage of this 3-D adaptation although it will be some time because the move is still in the making. Word is that Tim is working on a semi-trailer that we all anxiously await that will give us a glimpse into Alice's bazaar world.
The semi-trailer is a difficult task as well because Tim's team is still shooting the movie live. As Tim explains, "It is a technological challenge of blurring the lines between live-action, motion-capture and animation which is proving to be a massive undertaking. It's a real mysterious puzzle that is frightening and exciting at the same time."
You may recall some of the very creative directors famous but bazaar films like Beetle Juice, Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Tim's re-created Alice in Wonderland displays a cinema of color, graphics, animation and fantasy all colliding in an entertaining 3-D motion picture that will be talked about for years to come.
Australian actress Mia Wasikowska plays Alice, who is now 17 years old. Bored at a high society party in a Victorian estate, Alice wanders off only to be lead to the fantasy world of Wonderland by the White Rabbit played by Michael Sheen, who believes she is the "right Alice", producer Richard Zanuck explains.
Although Wonderland is wonderful to a certain degree, it is ruled by the evil Red Queen of Hearts, played by actress and Burton's fianc, Helena Bonham Carter, whose favorite retort is "off with their heads!" She overthrows the good sister, The White Queen, played by Anne Hathaway.
Burton of course adds his own dark spins in many parts of the movie, as he is known to do like adding a moat filled with bloody heads that really plays up the wicked role of the evil Red Queen.
From the huge, colorful and chatty flowers that take their cue from the talkative trees in the Wizard of Oz, to the garden of topiaries shaped like a giraffe, butterfly and dodo taken from Burton's Edward Scissorhands, you will see a visually surreal interpretation that only Tim Burton can give.
Stroll through a forest of giant mushrooms and meet the enigmatic Caterpillar, Alan Rickman and the fierce Jabberwock, Christopher Lee.
The colorful Mad Hatter, played by Burton's long time friend, Johnny Depp, takes a different road by bringing a deeper, funnier character, rooted in humanity to some degree besides being just plain nuts as Burton describes.
Alice has to overcome major hurdles to help her friends reclaim their world back from the evil Red Queen, who is also Tim Burton's fiance. Watch for the movie due in theaters March 5, 2010.
