TVs: Purchasing Advice

By Craig Stephenson

The purchase of a new television is a very important decision. Most people spend a great deal of time in front of the TV, so choosing a good one is necessary. Now there are so many different things that a TV is required to do and it is almost a wonder that they can handle it. With all the games, high definition movies and TV shows, and even the photo-sharing abilities that TVs now have, they really are one of the most important pieces of entertainment equipment in any home. The right level of price and quality to match a family's lifestyle is essential.

One of the most important decisions you can make is the choice of size for your television. TVs come in many different sizes, and each size is appropriate for a different kind of room or family. Measuring the space you have available in a room is the best way to determine what size will best match your lifestyle. Remember that the measurements on the TV boxes are for the screen size, so the final product will be a little larger. Larger TVs are more expensive than smaller ones.

Different TVs come with different features. Some come with anti-blur features, while others come with true to life movements. Sound quality and picture quality will differ between brands and sets. Some TVs use technology to be completely wireless, and others use remotes that do not have to be pointed at the TV screen.

The size of a television set is the number one determining factor for price. Other price factors include brand and types of features. Usually it is best to choose a price range and stick to it. Try to get the best brand for that price. It is usually a good idea to shop around between different stores to find the best price for the best TV. In general it is better to choose quality over price.

Each TV brand has its own level of quality. Better known brands are usually more expensive than lesser known brands. The more expensive brands are not always better. It is a good idea to research brands before going to a store to buy a television set. Smaller screens with higher quality are usually better than larger screens with lower quality.

Usually a TV set will come with a warranty already. Some stores offer additional warranties for things like damages, lights going out, or other issues. Sometimes the plans are worth the extra expense and sometimes they are not. Usually if it cost more than 20% of the purchase price it is not worth it.

TVs are large and bulky, and hard to transport. Many stores offer delivery plans for televisions. Ask about any delivery fees that the store charges. It is up to you to decide if you want the convenience of delivery or the cost-savings of taking the TV home yourself.
