Pink Mobiles Get Popular

By Lizzy Hatpail

There are a lot of good things about pink mobile phones. These advantages hold true even if pink is not your favorite color. For example, when electronic accessories are first produced they come in a limited set of colors (think black). More colors become available only after the product becomes popular. A cell phone that comes in pink is probably a widespread model that should be easy to replace if you happen to break it.

If you're prone to losing things, a pink cell phone might be really useful to you. If you happen to leave it on the sofa, or if it falls on the carpet, it will stand out so that it's easy to spot. Unless it falls on a pink carpet, which isn't likely!

Younger girls like pink, and things that are pink are usually targeted to the younger market. A pink cell phone is probably intended for the youth market; which means it's probably sturdier. Teenagers are careless, so products for teenagers are made to withstand more punishment.

Red is a darker shade of pink, and is used to signify danger or trouble such as with a stop sign or traffic light. A pink cell phone matches close enough to red that it can prevent you from making too many calls. However, it's also less of a warning because of the lighter color. Because of this you might make calls that can save your skin without thinking too much about making the call or not. For example, dinner at a restaurant might not be at the time or place you thought it to be, but because you have a pink cell phone you aren't overly discouraged from making the call and correcting your mistake.

I'm not an expert on fashion, but I can see that a pink cell phone could be a fashion statement. I'm sure there are women who overdo this, and have a cell phone to match each and every shade of lipstick that they wear. In my opinion, such women should find something more useful to do with their time.

There's a famous poem by Gelett Burgess that starts out, "I never saw a purple cow, I never hope to see one." Before I did the research for this article, I would have put pink mobile phones in the "purple cow" category. But now that I've seen how useful a pink mobile phone can be, I'm taking them off my "purple cow" list. Someday, I actually hope to see one. But I still agree with the last line of Burgess' poem: "I'd rather see than be one.
