Best Handheld Computer

By Michael Erikson

In today's world, it is not feasible to stay out of touch. There are appointments to keep and calls to make. There are emails that cannot go unanswered. You have to be able to edit and send documents while being on the go. Try a handheld computer as a way to help you stay in touch with the world. It has all of the properties of a computer, but is compact so you can carry it with you at all times.

The pocket PC has come a long way since the first model was introduced in the 1980s. The original iPAQ Pocket PC'S were very basic, even though later models added the ability to see a single line of text. That is nothing compared to the newest models, which let you browse the internet, schedule appointments and allow you to send and receive documents, all while being away from the office.

The pocket PC is also known as a Personal Digital Assistant, or PDA. The previous versions ran on Windows Mobile 5, but have since upgraded to Windows Mobile 6. Windows Mobile 5 was a great relief to PDA owners mainly beacuse of battery issues.

In previous versions, if the battery ran dead, then all information would be lost. Mobile 5 eliminated this by storing the information on a flash drive. The handhelds software also improved with version 6, with advanced capabilities, more storage and a feature that allows the PDA to act as a Smartphone.

Some of the abilities of handheld computers are Personal Information Management (PIM), Word processing, GPS navigation, multimedia presentation and many more. Pretty impressive for a little gadget like the PDA.

Many companies elected not to pursue the pocket PC, since Smartphones were becoming more of a mainstream choice. It was this evolution of the cell phone that had many companies altering their selling tactics.

If you find yourself constantly on the go, then a pocket PC is exactly what you need. The new lines of models include Smartphones, which have the latest PC software, along with the speed and processing ability that you need to schedule your appointments, send and receive emails, text message and make calls. If you want to know what brands are on the market, then PalmOs, Blackberry and Hewlett Packard models all make great Smartphones, just to name a few.
