By Mary J Russell

When you travel you need guidelines and if directions on the road are not clear then the only option is a GPS system. This helps you to navigate and reach your destination. All that you have to do is feed the starting point and the destination and the GPS will do the rest. Add this with a Vehicle Tracking System and your success is assured.

Nokia has come up with a new cell, the 6110 Navigator which is a four band mobile phone with satellite navigation capabilities. Targeted at the masses this cell phone costs 450/ $580 and has been designed for mass use and appeal. It also features the A-GPS (Assisted Global Positioning System) and has everything that most people want and need. There are preinstalled maps which can be easily used with a one-touch navigator key.

This Nokia 6110 Navigator can also view your position on the map, search destinations, find specific routes and locate services like restaurants, hotels and shops in the nearby areas. It suggests the best possible route to follow either by car or even on foot. It gives clear instructions by voice guidance and help by turning arrows on the map to ensure that you reach the destination fast. The price of Nokia 6110 is 450/ $580

GPS on the mobile phone is now a very real thing and there are a growing number of phones which are capable of linking to a GPS kit and most mobiles now have this entirely new feature available.

The Mio A710 is small, slender and impressive. GPS comes through the new SiRF Star III and this means that you can even pick up a signal indoors even before you start your journey. Maps of Europe are included and you have to just put it on the side of the unit and start your journey. These maps are easy to use and the mapping software is quite quick in this latest Mio.

When you want to use the GPS maps all that you have to do is to press a button which will show you a flip screen option which can make you flip from landscape to portrait. But this is good only if you are in the car, once you take it out, it may not work.

Then there are new models of mobiles which have the tri-band GSM phones which give them a Blackberry usage. Microsoft's new windows mobile 5 OS gives it push email features and have access to the Word and PowerPoint. It may even have a camera which is easy to handle. The only negative point is that the screen is small and you may need a stylus to operate it.

Despite so many innovations and so many applications people would still like one more application in the package. And that is the wifi. If installed you could access your emails and surf the net if you are delayed or caught in a traffic jam.
