Motorola Mobile Phones And Its Advantages

By Michael Rolfe

The history of Motorola, Inc. can be traced back when Paul V. Galvin and Joseph E. Galvin (his brother) bought a business that deals with battery eliminator in Chicago. It was named Galvin Manufacturing Corporation in September 1928 and at present it is already recognized as one of the many American multinational companies that became a part of Fortune 100.

Many of Motorola's products have been radio-related, starting with a battery eliminator for radios, through the first walkie-talkie in the world, defense electronics and mobile phone manufacturing. The company is also strong in semiconductor technology (but see the next paragraph), including chips used in computers. Motorola has been the main supplier for the microprocessors used in Apple Macintosh and Power Macintosh personal computers. The chip used in the latter computers, the PowerPC family, was developed with IBM, and in a partnership with Apple (known as the AIM alliance). Motorola also has a diverse line of communication products, including satellite systems, digital cable boxes and modems. On October 6, 2003, Motorola announced that it would spin off its semiconductor product sector into a separate company called Freescale. The new company began trading on the New York Stock Exchange on July 16th the following year.

Among the top brands of mobile phones around the world includes a brand that helped in revolutionizing the true meaning of mobility, and that is the Motorola branded mobile phones. Motorola phones are manufactured by Motorola Inc. that not only specializes in wireless telephone handsets, also designing and selling wireless network infrastructure equipment such as cellular transmission base stations and signal amplifiers.

Embedded Electronic Products "As the world's #1 producer of embedded processors, Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector creates Digital DNA& amp;reg; system-on-chip solutions for a connected world" . Embedded electronics can be found in Motorola's automotive, network and wireless products. The company introduced its first 6800 microprocessor (see figure 3), which used only 5 volts of power for the communication and business machines sector in 1975. In 1979 Motorola introduced its first 16-bit microprocessor, Figure 3 the 68000. Capable of completing two million calculations per second, it used to run and write programs for scientific, data processing, and business applications

Groundbreaking Developments in Cellular Technology: Perhaps Motorola's greatest moment came in 1983, when they developed and were granted an FCC license for the world's first commercial cellular phone. The DynaTAC 8000X is comically huge by today's standards, but at the time it represented a revolution that would allow people to communicate with one another from anywhere - and without the assistance of a land-line based phone.

Motorola creates several different products for use of the government, public safety officials, business installments, and the general public. These products include cell phones, laptops, computer processors, and radio communication devices. The Motorola RAZR line has sold over a 110 million units bringing the company to the number two mobile phone slot in 2005 (Nr 1 Nokia). The RAZR became a cult phone and many variations were produced.
