Marketing And Publicity Tips For Self Promotion

By Gloria Jennings

If you write a book, chances are you want it to be successful in order that you are able to continue writing for a living. When you just start out, it may be difficult to be able to afford public relations services to promote your book. So how do you get your work known on little-to-no budget?

Some authors have realized there is a great need for information about writing books. They have therefore, cleverly, written books about how to advertise the book you have written. The tips in the books may or may not be useful, but what IS useful is how you have learned about their book in the first place. Make your own web page and fan site. No one needs to know that you do not have dedicated fans doing this for you. Write a blog. Make a funny video and put it on YouTube. Advertise on your social networking sites. Make your technology (especially free technology!) work for you.

You may actually be in a better situation financially if you live in a small town instead of a big city. Someone from a small town getting a book published is big news in that area. Residents will rush out to see what their neighbor was able to create. Local media and papers will focus stories on you, which is always excellent and free advertising. In a big city, no one would care. You must use every single chance you get in order to get your name out there.

That said, keep a little mystery around you and be very aware of your own appearance. You are selling both your book and yourself. If you are dumpy or trashy looking, do not speak articulately, tell dumb jokes, or reveal everything about your book during an interview, who is going to want to buy your novel?

Dress well, too. If you do not dress professionally for public appearances, what makes anyone think that you can write professionally? Play up your contacts, you affiliation with local schools or business or sports teams. Make people proud that you came from their area. Keep in mind that people know your parents or remember you from high school. They want to see what you have done with your life.

You cannot be shy when it comes to advertising. Do absolutely anything you can (without making a negative impression of yourself). Do commercials, be in local magazines, even put up fliers yourself. You must be a business person. Sign autographs at a local book store. Make deals with companies who promote you and give them a cut of books they help you sell. You goal is to climb to the next tier of celebrity and then the next, as selling your book is your livelihood.

Get Satellite TV Now And Start Saving Money

By Kim Pascel

If you think that if having a satellite dish on your roof will bring you in touch with the world. The system has been in place since the early 1960's. Who knows if the government intended to position satellites in space so that millions could watch TV in their homes.

But it is interesting to see what lengths we have gone to receive entertainment in our homes. Television was an invention that broadcast a picture through radio waves. And of course before television was invented people used the radio for music and news and basic entertainment.

And before the radio people kept up with the news through the telegraph system which uses the Morse code to communicate. But now we have satellite in space to beam back images to our television sets. The difference between satellite and cable TV or regular TV for that matter is that it provides a clearer more enhanced picture and audio reception.

This is main part due to the digital reception of the satellite feed. You can have fun watching your favorite shows to see the stars on the TV with their blemishes and the glare from the heads of the bald people on the screen. It makes watching reruns a new and fun experience.

It makes watching the same old shows a new and fun experience. Most homes with satellite TV have a direct to home version. This means that they sign up with a satellite television provider, much like a cable TV provider. The stations like premium TV stations are broadcast up to the satellite in space and the providers systems captures that feed with its own satellite and then broadcasts that feed to its customers.

Customers need a satellite dish on their home to capture the feed from their provider. This means the satellite television provider does not broadcast the programs itself. It merely contracts with the broadcasters of the program feeds. The provider then acts a type of broker. The dish acts as a receiver. The ones that are installed on the homes of those who are satellite TV customers can only act as receivers.

You will still have to have a receiver on your TV to unscramble the feed from the satellite to your satellite dish. The receiver decodes the feed and then presents it on your screen. When many people think of this system they think of unlimited television reception. However this is not necessarily the case.

And in some cases this is true compared to the average cable television feed. However, there are so many governmental restraints on channel programming that if there was ever the idea of setting up a satellite and being able to tune into any far away station that idea is gone. In today's market of competition for monthly fees and licensing the satellite TV is a tightly controlled and regulated market. You can get a better picture quality but it is not the freedom of TV channel watching some might have hope for.
